HELICOPTER RIDE IN NYC

Hi y’all!

Part two was starting of our road trip! We flew from LA to New York City and stayed literally in the best Airbnb ever (It kinda had to do something with Ziggy, the dog).

In total we had 4 to 5 days to spend in the city and that seems enough, but NYC has so much to offer that time was tight every day. Every day we got up at 6.30 am and we were back in the Airbnb at 11 pm. Not to forget that visiting a city is so, so exhausting!

Well, we also wanted to see the city like… REALLY good. Okay, the title already spoils like the whole thing, but yes indeed! We did a helicopter ride above New York City WITH NO DOORS!

We booked with Flynyon, and that was a really good choice. The people were friendly, everything was arranged very good, we had a shuttle bus from the city to their ‘airport’, there was a cool ‘waiting area’ which had coffee, snacks, restrooms, … The briefing before we got into the helicopter was clear and our pilot was awesome!

The story will get even better.

When we arrived and after the briefing, waiting and all of that. We finally got our suits (for protection in case of an emergency) and we got to meet our pilot: Gregory. He did a small briefing as well and after that we were assigned to our seats. And when I say assigned, I really mean that. In total, we got with 6 people (and the pilot duh) into the helicopter. 5 people in the back and one next to the pilot. These seats are based on weight, which a computer system decides.

GUESS WHO COULD SIT NEXT TO THE PILOT?!

ME! (Britt)

That meant I had a 180 degrees view and I sat next to all these (thousand) buttons. Kinda cool to see a pilot pushing random (for me) buttons. Ief was sitting right behind me (with his back to me) and he had a pretty good seat as well: not as much wind and a good view!

Before we got off the ground, the pilot was checking all his buttons, wind, microphones… and suddenly, he needed to stop the helicopter because he forgot to check the fuel before we came. There was a moment of panic in my head because that was kinda important! Everyone can forget something ofcourse, but that man had to take us up in the sky after that as well, so he better check everything AGAIN!

When everything was settled and checked (double), we took off! You can quess: the views from the helicopter were fantastic… We’re both still speechless if we think about it. We saw the whole city from above: Central Park, the Empire State Building, The 9/11 Memorial pools from the sky, the One World Trade Center, Lady Liberty, Staten Island, Brooklynn… We covered it all!

The whole flight was a total of 33 minutes. It seems okay, but time ‘flies’ (haha you get it?) when you’re having fun.

We can really recommend to do this in your life at least once in a cool location. We recommend NYC ofcourse, but to fly into a helicopter with no doors will be beautiful in a lot of cities and destinations. We payed enough for 33 minutes, but it was totally worth every dollar!

TIP: If you want to book a helicopter flight through Flynyon, keep an eye on their website, social media… because they often have cool coupons, deals… You can really save a lot of money if you can use one of those!
