Hohohooo everyone!
It's that time of the year: Christmas! 🎅
To come into the right Christmas atmosphere, we went to the Christmas Market in Düsseldorf. Not just any Christmas Market, but this one won the price for most beautiful Christmas Market. We just had to go and verify that.... 🎄
The nicest thing about the Christmas Market in Düsseldorf is that it's not ONE market, but SIX (oh yes, six my dear). Below, you can find the order in which we visited the markets!
All six markets are very different, they all have a different theme and character. The first market is (ofcourse) the 'Traditionele Markt Platz' (read with your best German accent). On this market, all the stands are made out of bricks, in the traditional way. To continue this style, all the handmade, craft products are the central theme here. Smiths, glassblowers and candle makers proudly display their craft arts and products. There is even a beautiful, handmade Christmas crib, made out of wood. For the little ones (or for me, more coming soon in the video), there is even a carousel!
The second Christmas market, Heinrich Heine Platz, is located in front of the 'Carsch Haus', a luxurious department store. This market is known as the 'Angels Market', because all the stands have a huge angel on top. Besides that, it's also richly decorated with beautiful lighting. These two in combination creates a heavenly atmosphere. Very restful! 🙏
The next one is in Flinger StraBe. The stands in here are imitating the traditional Düsseldorfer houses. But the best part is: THERE IS A PYRAMID OF GLUHWEIN (is it only my mind that get crazy when someone says alcohol?).
The fourth market, Stadtbrücken, is also known as the 'Star Market' because there are SO many white lights and (you can hear me coming) stars! ⭐ There is even a small ferris wheel for kids with million of lights. Doesn't it look cute?
Christmas market five: Schadowplatz. The stands here are not regular stands, but wooden houses. This detail makes sure that there is a super cosy atmosphere. Most of the houses are also covered with pine branches, so the smell there is very Christmassy! 🌲
Aaaaand last but not least: Gustaf Grudgens Platz! This is the market where all the action is! ICE SKATING ⛸! Because what is a Christmas market without an ice rank, right? For those who don't dare to take a chance on the ice, there are enough stands next to the ice rank with food and (oh yeah) alcohol! (or other drinks ofcourse...).
On all these markets, there is plenty of choice in food en drinks (luckely). We did everything by foot, and this was definitely possible for everybody. The distances between the markets are not far and decorated with beautiful lightings.
Food recommendations: we ate homemade donuts, rösti's, fries and we drank gluhwein and hot chocolate. Besides these dishes, there are hundreds of other things. Food and drinks enough!
We went to Düsseldorf by car and we parked our car in 'Kunsthalle Parking' near the centre. The parking spaces are so tiny, but the price is quite cheap for the city centre. The distance to walk is perfect! After walking through the beautiful decorated streets of Düsseldorf, you'll be at the Traditional Christmas Market in no time! On the map below, you can see the different locations of the markets, all location near each other!
