Hi readers,
WE MADE IT!
After a long flight of 12 hours (BRU-AMS, AMS-LAX) we finally arrived in the beautiful and hot Los Angeles.
We thought: ‘the airport of LA is big and will operate fluently.’ Guess what: it didn’t. We waited for 3 hours. Let me repeat that for you: 3 HOURS (!) before the border security. And no, not because something was wrong with our identity or visum, but because a million people wanted to arrive on the same day as us.
Yeey.
After the 3-hour wait, we could finally get our suitcases, order a Uber and go to our Airbnb. We stayed at Carly’s place. A friendly host with a good located house on Venice Boulevard, near Venice Beach. Great location to take a bus, to bike to the beach or to order a taxi/Uber because it was located next to a big road (Venice Boulevard). A bit noisy, but we were tired anyway of our travels.
Tired is one thing, getting some sleep is another. With the time difference of 9 hours, we arrived in LA at 14h00 in the afternoon, but in Belgium it was 23h00 in the evening. Normally it was time to sleep, but now we had half a day in front of us. We arrived at our Airbnb around 18h00/19h00.
We took the bike to Venice Beach, because we thought the sea shore would be filled with music, people, little shops… HELL NO. We never felled so unsafe. Let’s say ‘weird people’ and ‘loners’ were walking there and there was no light. After a small and quick dinner, we went back to sleep.
This was on Thursday. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday we visited the things below:
1. Venice Beach (in daylight, much better): It is filled with little shops, street musicians, the sun is shining and you really have a vacation feeling.
2. Venice Canals: This is like the little Venice of Italy. Small water canals with little boats and bridges. Think palm trees with that and voila!
3. Venice Sign: The famous and small Venice Sign
4. Venice boardwalk: you will pass beautiful houses, a skate park and Muscle Beach all the way up to the Santa Monica Pier
5. Santa Monica Pier: The famous pier with the fair, street musicians, games, food…
6. Marina Del Rey: a (huge) port located in a more fancy neighborhood of Los Angeles
7. Downtown LA: the modern site of LA, with tall buildings, business centers and museums.
8. Echo Park Lake: a beautiful park with (again) loads of palm trees and well, quite obvious… a lake!
9. Beverly Hills/Hollywood: The fancy side of LA with the Rodeo Drive (shopping street), the Hollywood Sign, Sunset Boulevard, the Walk of Fame, Hollywood Forever Cemetry and the Griffith Observatory where we watched a beautiful sunset.
We did everything with public transport, a Uber or with our bikes! We also visited some other great places for photos, lookout viewpoints and many other small things. This all in great and hot weather (yes, we got sunburned).
On Monday, it was time to get our little van to start the adventure of our roadtrip! Curious how our little truckie looks like on the inside and outside? Stay tuned for the next blogpost!
Now it’s time for us to chill a bit more in The United States Of America.
Cheers!
